Buck Mountain Hike - Waltham, VT

T his is a hike that only the locals know about. There are no trailhead signs and the trail is not marked. It is well traveled and not hard to follow. The summit is about 1 mile from Rte. 66. On this day there were several cars at the trailhead. I decided to bushwhack to the summit. 2.4 miles out and back with 885 feet of elevation gain. And the final destination; the summit of Buck Mountain. This is the trail I was following. It looks like a well traveled animal path and it was headed in the right direction. I was surprised to see a snail out in March! It sure has been a weird winter. This beaver pond is where I want to be. On the opposite side is a spur trail from the main trail. The hill on the left is where I will be headed. Great views of the Adirondacks overlooking the Champlain Valley and Lake Champlain.
